Creation Vs. Evolution & Age of Earth

It has been a few weeks since I last wrote N.O.W; actually I had a friend email me to ask if she was still on my list because she hadn’t received a N.O.W. lately. I have to admit I felt a little guilty not doing anything I planned when my daughters were away at Forest Home sleepover camp. I spent the entire week cleaning, organizing and seeing friends instead of reading and writing and excising like I had planned.

I have learned over the last few years not only to accept God’s timing for my life but, look forward to waiting for it. Patience is one of the things that came last for me but now that I have it, only through Christ, I find so much PEACE in my life.

The past few weeks I have been praying for God to tell me what to write about next. There have been a few instances that the topics of Creation, Evolution and the age of the earth have come up either talking with Christian friends or watching it on TV. So it is pretty clear that this is God’s answer; Creation vs. Evolution and why Christians should not accept the belief of “millions and million of years.” Many of us have kids beginning their new school years and if your kids go to a public school they are learning that the earth is billions of years old, dinosaurs lived million and million years ago and that life began with single cell organisms, evolved into animals and eventually, through survival of the fittest, we became modern day guys and gals.

Well, I don’t know about you but, when I studied all of that in school, including Sigmund Freud, the id, ego and superego psychology of man, it never made much sense except to learn it for the true or false, multiple choice test that was on Friday.
To be honest I didn’t give much thought to how the world began or how and when we got here until about 2 years ago when Ken Ham, Founder & CEO of Answers In Genesis spoke at our church. He actually gave a 6-part “seminar” over one week.  I was curious about what Ken Ham was going to reveal so I attended the first evening and didn’t miss one after that. I bought a library of book and DVD’s not only for myself but for my children so when they are learning from books at school about all the scientific evidence of “truth” I can show them the other side that they are banned by law not to consider as truth.

Anyway, I know this subject is huge and one or two N.O.W. blogs won’t answer enough questions to change anyone’s mind about the age of the earth. The reason why Creationists like Ken Ham say this subject is so important for Christians today is, because even though Christians believe that God created the world and everything in it, most do not believe that God LITERALLY created the world in 6 days and rested the 7th.  Why?

Ken Ham founded Answers in Genesis to minister to Christians.  The mission of AIG is to: resourcefully equip believers to defend their faith with excellence. If Genesis is not true it negates (according to a non-believer) the validity of every other page in the Bible. It is so important for us as parents because statistics show that over 75% of kids who have been brought up as Christians leave the church during the high school and college years because they can’t defend their faith amongst their friends and teachers. Christians have caved in to accepting that “maybe” when God made the world in 6 days each one of those days must have been thousands or even millions of years a part; why is it ONLY in Genesis when God says a “day” we think He doesn’t mean it literally???

  1. Genesis 1:5
God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1:4-6 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Genesis 1:8
And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
Genesis 1:7-9 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  3. Genesis 1:13
So the evening and the morning were the third day.
Genesis 1:12-14 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  4. Genesis 1:14
    Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide theday from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;
Genesis 1:13-15 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  5. Genesis 1:16
Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
Genesis 1:15-17 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  6. Genesis 1:18
and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:17-19 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  7. Genesis 1:19
So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Genesis 1:18-20 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  8. Genesis 1:23
So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Genesis 1:22-24 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  9. Genesis 1:31
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Genesis 1:30-31 (in Context) Genesis 1 (Whole Chapter)
  10. Genesis 2:2
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Genesis 2:1-3 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)
  11. Genesis 2:3
Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Genesis 2:2-4 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

If you are a Christian and you believe this, there is nothing to be ashamed of because we have been indoctrinated in our education system to believe that it has to be true because it is scientific fact without any conflicting truths. When our children grow up learning  “million of years” as factual truth with no other scientific theory or factual data to oppose that theory, our kids begin having doubts when confronted about the truth and validity of the Bible. We can’t defend our faith without information and education so this is why it is soooooooo important and this is why AIG Ministry was founded.

Creationists and evolutionists have the same evidence; they just interpret it within a different framework. Evolution denies the role of God in the universe, and creation accepts His eyewitness account—the Bible—as the foundation for arriving at a correct understanding of the universe. The truth of God’s Word is actually supported by science and not contradicted by it because the Bible is more than a mere source of knowledge; it is the history book of the universe.

I will end here for tonight but I went onto the www.answersingenisis.com site and found this list. Obviously scientific evidence DOES NOT PROVE the theory of evolution and an old earth. Actually if this stimulates you to research and study further you will see that there are many unanswered questions of “millions of years” vs. the biblical account of how and when the earth began. Like I said earlier, if one begins with the notion that it is impossible for a God to create things that we cannot prove therefore it cannot be true we come to the conclusion that we must hypothesize without the possibility of an all-powerful creator.

  2. All I can really say Sian is if you are using the pseudo-science pedaled on answersingenesis.org to "supplement" you children's proper scientific education then you are doing them a huge intellectual dis-service. The two cornerstones of the scientific method are falsification and forming null hypotheses. I suggest you look them up as you need to increase your knowledge on the subject. Starting with the premise that something is intrinsically true (i.e Genesis), and setting out to prove it is, by definition, not science pure and simple. The science that is taught to your kids at school (thankfully) has passed through this scientific rigor and the peer review process and therefore is allowed to be taught to impressionable young minds. The pseudo-science that is trotted out on answersingenesis.org is not allowed to be taught, and for good reason. IT IS NOT SCIENCE. You can list as many professional scientists as you like but the fact is the overwhelming majority (greater than 90% in most studies) do believe in evolution and it is a moot point anyway. Scientific facts are facts, this is not a popularity contest. Also many professional scientists are quite happy to believe that God started the ball rolling and that evolution was the process by which humans evolved from simple organisms. You are wrong to say that "Evolution denies the role of God in the universe". There is actually room for both if you don't buy into this young earth creationist lie. Sian I urge you to look outside resources that simply reinforce your beliefs and really have a look a the evidence yourself, it is overwhelmingly in support for evolution via natural selection and an earth that is over 3 billion years old. Here is a good start;

I hope you don't delete this post Sian as it took me a while to write and if you are going to discuss evolution at least do the required research to know what you are arguing against. Otherwise how can anyone take you seriously?
